The French custom of adding chicory to coffee was brought to Louisiana during colonization, where it quickly became a New Orleans tradition. Traditionally served with hot milk, the chicory adds a hint of chocolate flavor to this decaffeinated coffee. The Original Caf Du Monde Coffee Stand was established in 1862 in the New Orleans French Market, and to this day is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
